We have been hand pressing the suits of Savile Row bespoke tailoring houses for over 20 years, and know that dry cleaning a suit too frequently comes with risks. Our sponge press service uses steam and pressure to freshen garments and reshape them without dry cleaning.
But there are times when dry cleaning is appropriate; to get rid of stains or as action against moth. After dry cleaning, we can still reshape tailoring by hand, as in our sponge press service, to ensure that the suit is looking its best when you collect from us.
Dry cleaning takes a week and services including hand pressing, such as sponge press or dry clean hand press, take two weeks. We prioritise the work we undertake for Savile Row, which leaves limited availability for retail clients.
Dry cleaning involves the use of chemicals to break down stains and essentially dissolve them. It is the best way of getting rid of stains caused by food, for example, but is the wrong service for a regular freshening up. Instead, a sponge press is the much gentler service that does not involve any chemical, just forcing steam through the fabric to reshape and revive.
We offer a home or office collection service within areas of Mayfair, Marylebone, Belgravia and the Inns of Court. There is a minimum order value of £200 for a collection, and that can either be a regular weekly/fortnightly visit, or a one off.
As most tailors will tell you, you should not dry clean a suit frequently. Certain stains require a dry clean to remove, but for those looking for a regular service, we would strongly recommend our sponge pressing as it can be done as regularly as you like without any risk.
